About the Target Word Program
Target Word is a family-focused program.
This program was developed by The Hanen Centre to help families meet the needs of children who are late talkers. Research shows that how parents play and talk with their children can create opportunities for children to learn new words. At EarlyEd, we believe families know their child best and in the Target Word Program, families will learn ways to naturally create opportunities for their child to use words during everyday routines and activities.
Target Word will be offered at EarlyEd by our Hanen Certified Speech-language Pathologist who has received specialised training from The Hanen Centre.
What will the Program look like?
It will help families turn everyday activities into opportunities for
language learning.
• How to introduce new words and ideas into playtime and other activities.
• How to join in their child’s play and favourite activities in ways that help their child use new words.
• How to set up activities so their child can learn new words.
Target Word is run over several weeks and include both individual sessions and online small groups, learning practical strategies to help their child expand their expressive vocabulary.
Who is Target Word For?
Parents of young children with delayed expressive language.
• children who have relatively good understanding, play, social, motor and cognitive skills.
• children who have some risk factors such as limited use of gestures, family history or does not copy words.
Contact us if you are not sure if your child is eligible, or for more information.
