EarlyEd Supports NSW Carers Week Carers week

EarlyEd recognises the critical role all family members play in supporting their child who needs early intervention.

National Carers Week is dedicated to acknowledging carers in Australia, runs from Sunday 15 – Saturday 21 October 2017. The theme for National Carers Week is Carers Count. By letting people know how many carers there are in Australia, the hours of care provided each week and the value of that care, Carers Count aims to raise awareness of the contribution made by carers.

Family is important

EarlyEd takes a family centred approach to all the intervention supports we offer you. This means that any intervention we offer needs to be as manageable as possible and fit in your daily routines.

The whole family can care and support intervention

We recognises that extended family and grandparents want to be able to support your family and child. In order to support this, EarlyEd encourages any member of the family to be part of the intervention and learn the ways to help your child learn. It can really increase your child’s rate of learning if everyone is working towards the same goal, working the same way and practicing more often.  Sharing the intervention together is the best way to support each other and your child. And imagine how confusing it must be for the child if different people have different ways of interacting.

If you want other family members to learn more, talk to your key worker and other team members about how to do this. Maybe you can arrange for them to visit at home or join in at group.

Brothers and sisters are important

At EarlyEd brothers and sisters join in the intervention as they are part of your child’s daily life. Parents need to look after everyone at the same time so involving all your children in intervention is necessary and the benefits are great. Parents learn how to manage the intervention with everyone around, brothers and sisters learn what to do and everyone feels part of a family activity. Brothers and sisters are part of all our groups including our holidays programs.

Playgroup is a time for you

EarlyEd’s Playgroups and MyTime are times when parents can really think about their own needs. You can ask any questions, share your feelings and concerns and take a moment for yourself.
