My Country by Ezekiel Kwaymullina & Sally Morgan
As part of Online Storytime this week, we will be celebrating NAIDOC Week by reading My Country. This story celebrates a child’s connection and sense of belonging to Country. It takes readers on a journey through the land, sky and sea, exploring the beauty of the natural world from the morning star to the red desert, to whispering winds and colourful rainbows.
Thursday 9 July 2026
10:00am to 10:30am
How can My Country support your child’s learning
- Simple text, making it easier for children of different language levels to follow.
- The rhythmic text can help children stay more engaged and encouraged to join in.
- Children may relate to the experiences of the child in the story, helping them make personal connections.
- The illustrations provide many opportunities to point and comment on what you see which helps bring meaning to the story.
- The book introduces children to a variety of verbs and descriptive language, supporting vocabulary development.
- Reading this book together can create opportunities for families to talk about Country, nature and belonging.
