Cubby House Library Toy Library Available at More Sites

Whatever way you look at it toy library reduces costs.

Borrowing means less cost for families when purchasing a toy, in managing waste and time tidying and storing toys. Click and Collect reduces costs even further as you have less distant to drive to pick up toys because our great volunteers help out. It also means that you don’t need to miss out if you live too far away from the main Toy Library.  

Did you know that 51% of toys are likely to become waste? 

A UK study found that 1 in 3 parents have thrown away toys in perfect working order. A “survey of parents discovered that, on average, a child loses interest in a toy within just 36 days. A fifth of parents said their child lost interest after 11 hours of play, while 8% said their children became bored in less than an hour.” By borrowing toys families have the same amount of use from a toy, but once used it doesn’t become waste, it’s enjoyed by many more children.

Try before you buy or don’t even buy.

Sometimes you don’t know whether a toy or equipment like a bike will suit or interest you child. A toy library is a perfect way to try something out. If you come to the library you can even try out a variety of toys. 

Toy Libraries do more than recycle. They provide a wide variety of learning experiences to all families. 

This new service extends Cubby House Toy Library’s 40 year history of support of operating in the community and long partnership with Northern Beaches Council. The partnership with the Northern Beaches Council Libraries came after the Council consulted with the community late last year on ways to reduce plastic toy waste.  

Click and Collect started as a COVID safe measure at our offices at Forestville and North Sydney but it has been kept on as an essential part of the Cubby House service because it is so popular.  

The launch recognised the impact of partnerships and the way they can support sustainability and promote innovation. The EarlyEd Toy Library team wish to thank our partners for the practical support to establish this program.
